5.Combustion Winter School- UCLouvain

Happy new year!!

University Catholique de Louvain held the first combustion winter school for the 15 Early Stage Researchers virtually using Zoom platform on 21 – 22 January 2021. The online winter school took place over two half-days: the first covered general topics of combustion. The second day was split into two tracks: a technical track which more focused on the combustion mechanisms and modelling for a targeted audience that works on or is interested in combustion modelling, whereas the societal track was aimed at a more general audience and covered topics such as the impact of combustion on society and the work related to public acceptance. Both tracks were brought together at the end of the day to exchange ideas presented and discuss common questions. The event commenced with a fun online treasure hunt as an ice breaker and ended with an enjoyable online escape room open to all.

The combustion winter school was open for registration for all members of the scientific community. The event was advertised using LinkedIn and through the project contacts. Fifteen ESRs were present at workshop. All principal investigators of the beneficiaries were also present. In total, there were 82 registrants including ESRs, speakers, NextMGT members and external members. The ice breaker was an interactive treasure hunt. The event was recorded; recordings and presentation slides were circulated to all ESRs (and public) after the event was completed.
